Kyungpook National University Selected as "Excellent University" for Five Consecutive Years in Graduate School Innovation Support Project, Secures 9 Billion KRW in Funding

Kyungpook National University (President Heo Youngwoo) has been selected as an “Excellent University” in the preliminary results of the annual evaluation for the “4th Stage BK21 Graduate School Innovation Support Project,” which is overseen by the Ministry of Education and the National Research Foundation of Korea.


With this selection, Kyungpook National University has achieved the distinction of being named an “Excellent University” for five consecutive years, from the first to the fifth year of the project, starting in 2020.

The 4th Stage BK21 Project is a large-scale financial support initiative that aims to foster innovation in graduate schools by nurturing master’s and doctoral-level talent across all academic fields and cultivating research-oriented universities.


As part of this project, the Graduate School Innovation Support Project focuses on supporting the reorganization of graduate school systems, improvement of graduate education, enhancement of research environment and quality, and strengthening of international competitiveness, all with the goal of developing world-class research-oriented universities.


With the vision of becoming a “world-class research-oriented university leading future innovation,” Kyungpook National University is currently implementing 154 detailed programs under 16 strategic tasks. In particular, in the fifth year, the university has made concentrated investments in convergence education, enhancing research quality, and strengthening internationalization.


Through this latest selection as an Excellent University, Kyungpook National University will secure a total project budget of 9 billion KRW for 2025, along with additional incentives. The university plans to continuously expand its graduate innovation-related initiatives, such as strengthening AI research infrastructure and expanding internationalization programs.


Heo Youngwoo, President of Kyungpook National University, stated, “Being recognized as an Excellent University for five consecutive years in a major national project is an acknowledgment of Kyungpook National University’s efforts to become a research-oriented university.”


He added, “Going forward, we will further solidify the foundation for nurturing master’s and doctoral-level talent and enhancing educational and research competitiveness by linking the Glocal University 30 Project with the Graduate School Innovation Support Project.”


The final results of this evaluation will be confirmed after an objection process, which is scheduled to continue until July 11.
