Damyang County (Governor Jeong Cheolwon) announced on July 8 that it is investing a total budget of 100 million won to apply 'Cool Roof' paint to the roofs of 28 senior centers used by climate-vulnerable groups in preparation for the extreme heat of summer.

This project is part of the 'Cool Roof Support Project,' which was selected through a public contest by the Ministry of Environment. The goal is to lower rooftop temperatures and reduce the rise of indoor temperatures by applying a special paint with solar and heat reflection effects to building roofs.

The project is expected to both reduce cooling costs and improve indoor living conditions during the increasingly intense summer heat. In particular, by focusing on senior centers, which are heavily used by the elderly, the project is anticipated to greatly help prevent heatwave damage among energy-vulnerable populations.

Governor Jeong Cheolwon said, "With the acceleration of climate change causing prolonged extreme heat, we are implementing this project to minimize damage to vulnerable groups." He added, "Going forward, we will actively seek out and promote support projects to prevent damage not only from heatwaves but also from harsh climates such as cold waves, making Damyang County a safe community from climate crises."
