Jeonnam National University Hospital and Hwasun Jeonnam National University Hospital have taken a step closer to becoming smart hospitals by participating in the Ministry of Health and Welfare's "Medical Information Technology (IT) Precision Survey."

This survey is the first government-led precision assessment in Korea to go beyond simply checking whether hospitals have certain systems, providing a multidimensional evaluation of the overall level of digital transformation within hospitals.

According to the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korea Health Industry Development Institute on July 8, a precision assessment using the Digital Health Indicator (DHI) of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) in the United States has begun for ten national and public university hospitals across the country. This evaluation will be conducted over approximately five months, with the final results expected to be released around the end of the year.

The Digital Health Indicator is a global standard that quantifies and evaluates hospitals' digital capabilities in four key areas: governance and workforce, interoperability, person-enabled health, and predictive analytics. Based on this, the government plans to use the precision assessment to identify the relatively insufficient digital investment environment of national and public university hospitals and to prepare policy support tailored to these findings.

Through this assessment, Jeonnam National University Hospital and Hwasun Jeonnam National University Hospital will receive an objective evaluation not only of their IT system implementation but also of how actual digital transformation is being realized in areas such as organizational management, patient safety, and medical experience. This is expected to provide a crucial foundation for establishing future digital health strategies and investment directions.

Jeong Shin, Director of Jeonnam National University Hospital, stated, "This assessment is both a foundational diagnosis and an opportunity for advancement toward building the 'patient-centered smart hospital' that Jeonnam National University Hospital aims for." He added, "Taking this evaluation as a starting point, we will establish a systematic digital strategy and accelerate the realization of patient-centered smart healthcare."
