S-OIL (CEO Anwar Al Hejazi) is partnering with smart grid specialist G2Power (CEO Kim Youngil) to commercialize energy storage systems (ESS) based on immersion cooling technology.
On July 8, S-OIL announced that it had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with G2Power at its headquarters in Gongdeok-dong, Seoul, for the development and business cooperation of immersion cooling type ESS.
This agreement follows G2Power’s development of a new immersion cooling ESS product that applies AI control technology, utilizing S-OIL’s low-viscosity, high-efficiency cooling oil, the 'e-Cooling Solution.' The two companies have maintained close technical cooperation during the execution of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy’s project, 'Water-cooled Immersion Applied Lithium Secondary Battery Packing and Enhanced Safety Control Technology.'
G2Power’s immersion cooling ESS significantly reduces the risk of fire and explosion compared to conventional air-cooled systems. By combining S-OIL’s cooling oil with AI-based control technology, operational energy consumption has been reduced by up to 30%, and charge/discharge efficiency has improved by approximately 10%. The core advantage is the ability to precisely control heat generation for each battery module, thereby enhancing thermal management safety.
With this agreement, S-OIL and G2Power plan to accelerate the commercialization of ESS within this year. They are also considering expanding their cooperation to include immersion cooling systems for data centers and other applications in the future.
An S-OIL representative stated, "The commercialization of immersion cooling technology in the ESS sector will accelerate," adding, "We will continue to invest in technology development to secure a leading position in the high-growth thermal management market."
