Chungnam Province Expands Global Cooperation in China
Vice Governor Park Jungju Signs New MOU with Hainan Province and Deepens Partnerships with Sister Regions
Chungnam Province is strengthening exchanges and cooperation with local governments in China, actively pursuing global agendas such as supporting local companies' overseas expansion and responding to the climate crisis.
According to the province on July 8, Vice Governor Jungju Park visited three regions in China?Sichuan Province, Guizhou Province, and Hainan Province?from July 3 to July 8, establishing practical cooperation with local governments, universities, and companies.
This visit was organized to mark the 10th anniversary of the Korea-China Free Trade Agreement (FTA). It was significant in that it deepened cooperation with existing sister regions Sichuan and Guizhou, while also opening a new channel for friendly cooperation with Hainan, a strategically important new partner.
In Chengdu, Sichuan Province, Vice Governor Park met with Zhang Guifang, Chairman of the Jinjiang College of Sichuan University, to discuss ways to expand university exchanges between the two regions.
He also met with the United Front Work Department of Sichuan Province, requesting the participation of Chengdu Botanical Garden in the '2026 Taean International Horticultural Healing Expo' and agreeing to strengthen cooperation in the fields of horticulture and environment.
Additionally, he attended the 'Eco Forum Global Guiyang 2025' held in Guizhou Province and delivered a keynote speech at the 'International Friendship Cities Industrial Cooperation Forum,' where representatives from over 20 countries gathered, introducing Chungnam Province's policies for achieving carbon neutrality.
Furthermore, he met with Lu Yongzheng, Head of the Publicity Department, proposing international climate cooperation such as joining the Under2 Coalition and participating in the Carbon Neutrality Conference.
He also invited the Chinese smart agriculture company 'Hangtian Jiangnan Group' to participate in the expo and proposed exhibition cooperation to share the beauty of traditional Chinese gardens with the residents of Chungnam Province.

In addition, Geumsan County operated a Geumsan Ginseng Promotion Center on site, Soonchunhyang University signed an MOU with Guizhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in the fields of traditional medicine and tourism, and the Soonchunhyang University performance team held a K-pop concert at the Guiyang Roadside Concert.
Vice Governor Park visited Hainan, the southernmost province of China, and signed a 'Memorandum of Understanding for Friendly Exchange and Cooperation between Chungnam Province and Hainan Province.'
Hainan Province is attracting attention as a strategic base for local companies seeking to enter southern China, as it operates a duty-free free trade policy and the world's largest duty-free shop.
Vice Governor Park stated, "We will produce tangible results that residents can feel by solidifying relationships with existing sister regions while pursuing strategic diplomacy with new partners," adding, "We will continue to expand Chungnam's diplomatic network to contribute to sustainable development."
The province plans to use this visit to China as an opportunity to further expand practical cooperation and exchanges in various fields such as environment, tourism, education, and agriculture.
