Samsung Electronics is aiming for a recovery in its performance by launching a new lineup of thin, lightweight, high-performance foldable phones on July 9.

On July 9 (local time), Samsung Electronics will hold the "Galaxy Unpacked 2025" event in Brooklyn, New York, to unveil its new foldable phones. The products to be introduced at the event include the Galaxy Z Flip7, Flip FE (Fan Edition), Fold7, the basic model of Galaxy Watch8, and the Galaxy Watch8 Classic model.

In particular, the Fold7 is the product to which Samsung has devoted the most effort. It is described as the thinnest and lightest in the series to date, featuring a large display and high-performance artificial intelligence (AI) technology. When folded, its thickness is expected to be 8.9mm and its weight 215g, which are reductions of 2.2mm and 24g, respectively, compared to the previous model. For the first time in the foldable phone series, Samsung is introducing an entry-level FE model, indicating an attempt to popularize foldable phones.

Samsung has also equipped the new foldable phones with the official version of One UI 8, which features enhanced security and privacy protection. One UI 8 introduces a new security solution called "KEEP," designed to strengthen on-device privacy protection. KEEP was newly developed to protect personalized AI features and creates encrypted storage spaces for each app within the device's secure storage area. The update also includes "Knox Matrix," which provides threat detection and protection for various connected devices, and "Secure Wi-Fi" with quantum-resistant encryption technology.

Additionally, Samsung Electronics announced that, as of 14 days after opening pre-registration for new Galaxy devices on Samsung.com on June 24, more than 160,000 people have signed up. This is seen as a reflection of strong interest in the new Galaxy foldable smartphones. Ahead of Galaxy Unpacked, Samsung is running a "pre-purchase notification registration" event and a survey open to everyone, and customers who purchase the new products after registering for the notification will receive 20,000 Samsung Electronics membership points.

With the abolition of the Act on Improvement of Mobile Device Distribution Structure (commonly known as the "DanTong Act") on July 22, there are expectations that, if mobile carriers and Samsung significantly increase subsidies, the actual purchase price for consumers will decrease, potentially leading to increased smartphone sales.
