Kim Jin, former editorial writer for JoongAng Ilbo, commented on the request for an arrest warrant and the warrant review for former President Yoon Sukyeol, stating that he believes the warrant will be issued. He said, "Former President Yoon Sukyeol has only two days of freedom left."
On July 8, during an appearance on CBS Radio's "Park Jaehong's Hanpan Seungbu," Kim remarked, "It is highly likely that the attempt to fly a drone over Pyongyang was intended to provoke a military confrontation and use it as a pretext for declaring martial law." He added, "Legally, determining whether this constitutes a crime against the state is quite complex, but from the perspective of public sentiment, it is considered a grave betrayal of the people."
Regarding the additional arrest warrant issued for former Commander Noh Sangwon, Kim stated, "Following former Defense Minister Kim Yonghyun, now even former Commander Noh Sangwon, key suspects are being consecutively detained." He assessed that the likelihood of former President Yoon Sukyeol being detained again has increased.
Kim also addressed the allegation that former President Yoon called Deputy Chief of Security Kim Sunghoon and Chief of Security Lee Kwangwoo to his residence for lunch and said, "Bodyguards shoot better than the police. If you show your firearms, the police will be intimidated." Kim pointed out, "There were even scenes showing patrols carrying submachine guns within the premises, and such remarks are something no president in a normal state of mind would ever make."
He further stated, "If any bodyguard, acting out of excessive loyalty and abnormal judgment, had actually loaded live ammunition and fired, it could have led to a second April 19 Revolution." He added, "The fact that the president made such a dangerously suggestive remark during lunch was, to me, the most shocking and infuriating part."
Finally, Kim also criticized the emergency martial law cabinet meeting, which is one of the main grounds for the arrest warrant request. He explained that in order to meet the quorum of 11, certain individuals were contacted, and those cabinet members who were not contacted were deprived of their authority to attend the meeting, deliberate on the necessity of martial law, and express their opinions.
