Failure to Restore Hajamri, Samdong-myeon to Original State
Complaint Filed with Investigative Authorities and Administrative Measures Initiated
Ulju-gun in Ulsan has taken strong action against illegal development activities spanning 49,000 square meters in the Hajamri area of Samdong-myeon.
The county issued a restoration order to the parties involved. However, as compliance was delayed, Ulju-gun filed a complaint with investigative authorities and announced plans for additional administrative measures.
According to Ulju-gun, in January 2022, illegal landfilling equivalent to the size of seven soccer fields was detected on the site. Since then, the county issued a total of three restoration orders. Although the responsible party submitted a restoration plan, no substantial recovery has been carried out to date.
Accordingly, at the beginning of this month, the county reported the party to investigative authorities in accordance with relevant laws. Ulju-gun also plans to pursue further complaints and administrative actions for additional violations, including illegal waste dumping and infractions related to forest land, rivers, and farmland, with each department handling the respective cases.
To address the root causes of illegal landfilling, Ulju-gun directly visited large-scale nearby business sites to inform them that unauthorized soil removal is illegal, and officially notified neighboring local governments by official document to request their cooperation.
An official from Ulju-gun stated, "We will respond strictly and according to principles to illegal development activities that are widespread throughout the county, including in Hajamri, Samdong-myeon," and emphasized, "Please make sure to comply with relevant laws so that a sound landfilling culture can be established."
Ulju-gun plans to distribute development activity guidebooks and self-produced video content to each town and township to prevent illegal development activities.
