Gyeonggi Special Police to Crack Down on Illegal Activities at 270 Vacation Spots

Gyeonggi-do is launching a crackdown on illegal activities at popular vacation spots in the province during the summer holiday season.


On July 8, Gyeonggi-do announced that from July 21 to August 20, it will focus on inspecting 270 major vacation destinations in the province, including valleys and streams. The crackdown will target illegal installations such as unauthorized platforms set up in valleys, as well as safety-vulnerable facilities like unregistered lodging and camping sites.


Under the current River Act, occupying river areas or installing structures without permission, as well as acts such as blocking or diverting the flow of river water, are punishable by up to two years in prison or a fine of up to 20 million won.


Additionally, unregistered camping sites are subject to up to two years in prison or a fine of up to 20 million won under the Tourism Promotion Act. Operating unreported lodging businesses is also punishable by up to two years in prison or a fine of up to 20 million won under the Public Health Control Act.

In particular, selling food at businesses that have not been reported to the relevant city or county is punishable by up to three years in prison or a fine of up to 30 million won under the Food Sanitation Act. Drawing and using river water without permission is punishable by up to two years in prison or a fine of up to 20 million won under the River Act.


Kiido, head of the Gyeonggi-do Special Judicial Police Unit, stated, "We have launched investigations into illegal activities at valleys and streams to ensure the safety of residents and create a pleasant vacation environment." He added, "We will also provide guidance and conduct preventive activities for business owners to prevent legal violations, so that residents can enjoy a safe and pleasant summer holiday."
