Gyeonggi-do is recruiting participants for the second half of the year for its "Single-Person Household Opportunity Meal" program.
The Opportunity Meal program is designed to help single-person households establish healthy eating habits and overcome social isolation. It consists of cooking classes for simple meals led by culinary experts, as well as sessions with communication specialists to discuss emotions and relationships.
In the second half of this year, the program will target single-person households residing in the Gyeongui-Gyeongwon area (Goyang, Gimpo, Paju, Uijeongbu, Yangju, Dongducheon, Pocheon, Yeoncheon) and the Eastern area (Namyangju, Gwangju, Icheon, Guri, Hanam, Yangpyeong, Yeoju, Gapyeong). Each session will accommodate approximately 10 to 15 participants.
The application period for the Gyeongui-Gyeongwon area is from July 1 to July 31, and for the Eastern area, it is from August 1 to August 29.
The first program for the second half of the year will be held on August 13 at the Todang Culture Platform in Goyang, featuring "Cooking Healthy Summer Meals" and "Talking About Loneliness and Independence" for senior participants. Subsequently, a total of eight sessions will be held every Wednesday, each with a different theme.
Single-person households interested in participating can find more information on the Gyeonggi-do Single-Person Household Portal (gg.go.kr/1ingg) or by phone (031-246-2363). In addition to those officially registered as single-person households, individuals who are de facto single-person households may also participate with separate documentation.
A Gyeonggi-do official stated, "While the second half of the year focuses on recruiting middle-aged and senior single-person households, there are also programs available for all age groups," adding, "We hope this becomes a valuable opportunity for those living alone to understand and support one another."
