Centered on Saemaeul Central Market and Geumridan-gil
‘One-Day Class’ Program Launches
RISE Project in Full Swing
Gumi University in Gyeongbuk has officially launched a field-oriented, practical project aimed at revitalizing the local economy and commercial districts.
As part of the university-led RISE (Regional Innovation System & Education) initiative, the project is gaining attention as a model case that injects tangible vitality not only into Gumi City but also into local traditional markets and neighborhood commercial areas.
Throughout July, Gumi University is operating the 'One-Day Class' program once a week for a total of four sessions, using the Gumi Saemaeul Central Market and Geumridan-gil Field Support Centers as its bases.
This program is designed to provide local residents with unique cultural experiences, while also encouraging more people to visit traditional markets and neighborhood shopping districts, thereby boosting local consumption.
The One-Day Class, which focuses on emotionally engaging content rarely encountered in daily life?such as 'Weaving Scenery Creation,' 'Drawing Class,' 'Glass Art,' and 'Object Making'?is open to all citizens.
In particular, education spaces have been secured through cooperation with the traditional market merchants' association and local field support centers, and local resources have been actively utilized by signing MOUs with local instructors and small business owners to provide classes and services.
President Lee Seunghwan emphasized, "This program goes beyond a simple cultural event. By sharing the university's capabilities with the local community, it presents a practical model for revitalizing the local economy. Going forward, the university will continue to serve as a platform that plays a leading role in solving regional issues."
This project is being carried out in conjunction with the government's policy to revive the local economy, particularly the distribution of 'Min-saeng Consumption Coupons' to stimulate spending, and is expected to create significant synergy effects by increasing the time people spend in commercial districts and stimulating consumption.
Gumi University plans to continue promoting RISE-type projects that address various social issues in the region, taking the lead in building a 'sustainable local coexistence ecosystem.'
Local sites are regaining vitality through university participation, while the university is expanding the scope of education and practice through collaboration with the community, creating a mutually beneficial structure. Gumi University's efforts are cited as an example of a local university coexisting with its community and establishing itself as a central pillar of regional innovation.
