Lewotobi Laki-Laki Volcano Erupts on Flores Island
Flights to and from Bali canceled due to volcanic ash
Flights to and from Bali were widely canceled due to a volcanic eruption in the eastern Lesser Sunda Islands of Indonesia.
According to international media outlets such as the Associated Press on July 7 (local time), the Lewotobi Laki-Laki volcano, located on Flores Island, erupted at around 11:05 a.m., sending volcanic ash up to 18 kilometers into the sky.
As a result, at least 24 domestic and international flights were canceled at Bali Ngurah Rai International Airport. The airport authorities explained that flights connecting Bali with countries such as South Korea, Australia, and Singapore were mainly affected.
Airlines confirmed to have experienced cancellations or delays include Air Busan, Virgin Australia, Qantas, Jetstar, and AirAsia Indonesia.
This volcano also erupted last month, causing a mass suspension of flights to Bali, although operations resumed after one day.
