Kwack Wontae, the head of Seobuk District Office in Cheonan, South Chungcheong Province, was found dead while on a personal vacation in China.
According to Cheonan City and other sources on July 7, Kwack was discovered dead in his hotel room in Wendeng, Shandong Province, China, on the morning of July 6 while traveling with a colleague from work. The exact cause of death has not yet been determined.
Wendeng is a region where Kwack previously worked on assignment.
Kwack reportedly had no known underlying health conditions, and no external injuries were found at the time he was discovered. His family members have traveled to China to clarify the cause of death and to arrange for the repatriation of his body.
Kwack previously served as Director of the Administrative and Autonomy Bureau of Cheonan City and was appointed as head of Seobuk District Office in the personnel reshuffle effective July 1.
