Prosecution Seeks Up to 5 Years in Prison for 49 Participants in 'Seoul Western District Court Riot'

On July 7, during the sentencing hearing for 49 defendants including a person identified as Shim, held by the 11th Criminal Division of the Seoul Western District Court (Presiding Judge Kim Woohyun), the prosecution requested prison terms ranging from one to five years for charges including special trespassing of a building.

According to the prosecution, these individuals are accused of storming the court on January 19 after becoming enraged by the news that an arrest warrant had been issued for former President Yoon Sukyeol.

Previously, on February 10, the prosecution indicted a total of 63 people, including these defendants. Of these, four individuals who did not directly enter the court building were sentenced to suspended prison terms or up to ten months in prison.

For the ten people indicted on charges of blocking a vehicle belonging to the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials and obstructing its movement during the riot, the prosecution has requested prison sentences ranging from one year and six months to two years and six months. Sentencing is scheduled for August 1.
