Suwon Nambu Fire Station in Gyeonggi Province has launched a campaign to promote air conditioner fire safety rules in response to the ongoing heatwave.
The Suwon Nambu Fire Station stated that, over the past three years, 1,020 fires occurred in apartment complexes in the province during the summer, accounting for 28% of all seasonal fires. Among these, air conditioner fires were the most common, with 192 cases. The station urged residents to pay special attention to preventing air conditioner fires.
The Suwon Nambu Fire Station outlined the following air conditioner fire safety rules: remove dust and foreign substances from inside the air conditioner; place the outdoor unit in a well-ventilated area; do not store flammable items near the outdoor unit; check for damaged air conditioner wiring; use high-capacity outlets and avoid using multi-plug extension cords.
Ko Youngju, chief of the Suwon Nambu Fire Station, said, "As the summer season begins in earnest, air conditioner usage in households is expected to increase. Please follow air conditioner fire safety rules at all times to prevent incidents like the recent apartment fire in Gijang-gun, Busan from happening again."
