On July 7, Gwangsan District announced that it will operate a home-visit health management service for around 4,000 people, including elderly residents, until September, by deploying professional personnel known as "disaster helpers." These helpers will visit households in person to check their health status and will also monitor their health conditions at all times through phone calls and text messages.
They will provide not only guidelines on how to respond to heatwaves and tropical nights, but also summer health tips to boost immunity and simple exercise routines. In the event of a heatwave advisory or emergency situation, the district plans to activate an emergency contact system with home-visit health managers to ensure a swift response.
For 700 households, including those with elderly residents living alone and people with chronic illnesses, a "cool package" containing UV-protection hats, masks, and pain relief patches will be delivered within this month.
Park Byungkyu, head of the district office, stated, "A heatwave is equivalent to a disaster situation," and added, "We will establish a thorough response system and strengthen support, especially to reduce the damage suffered by vulnerable groups."
