President Lee Jaemyung is reportedly considering sending Lee Eonju, Supreme Council member of the Democratic Party, lawmaker Kim Wooyoung, and former People Power Party emergency committee chair Kim Chongin as special envoys to the United States. President Lee plans to dispatch special envoys to 14 countries, and for the U.S. envoy delegation, the final selection of members is nearing completion, with an official announcement expected soon.
According to the ruling party on July 7, President Lee is said to be planning to include these three individuals in the envoy delegation. Lee Eonju is expected to serve as the head of the delegation. Lee Eonju has established a connection with President Lee while serving as chair of the Future Economic Growth Strategy Committee within the Democratic Party.
Kim Chongin served as the emergency committee chair of the Democratic Party during the 2016 general election and has been active as a senior statesman respected across both progressive and conservative circles. In addition, Kim Wooyoung has experience leading the Democratic Innovation Council, a prominent pro-Lee Jaemyung organization within the party.
An official from the presidential office stated, "I understand that discussions regarding the special envoy are still underway," adding, "We cannot confirm the list at this time." Wi Sunglak, Director of National Security, who is currently visiting the United States, also commented on the dispatch of special envoys, saying, "This matter is still under discussion, and until the consultations are concluded, we cannot disclose any details," and "It is also difficult to determine the timing of the dispatch."
