Gyeonggi Province to Expand Adoption of AI-Based Work Automation Technology

Gyeonggi Province will expand the adoption of 'Robotic Process Automation (RPA)' technology, an artificial intelligence (AI)-based system that automatically handles simple and repetitive tasks, in order to enhance the efficiency of public administration.

On July 7, Gyeonggi Province held an interim briefing session on the 'AI Work Automation System Expansion Project' at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government, where it reviewed the operational status and progress of RPA systems that are being piloted in seven areas, including media, audit, legal affairs, and legislative administration.

Since January of this year, Gyeonggi Province has conducted an internal demand survey and identified 16 projects across 12 departments. After internal review and external consulting, the province selected a final list of seven projects.

The main projects include: ▲ a media monitoring system that automatically collects and shares online news articles; ▲ an automated system for integrating press release files and posting them on news portals; ▲ an audit support tool that automatically verifies the authenticity of electronic tax invoices; and ▲ a legislative administration support system that automates the receipt of bills and the creation of management records.

Given that RPA technology can maximize efficiency in document tasks that require accuracy and consistency, there is increasing potential for its adoption to be expanded to all departments within Gyeonggi Province in the future.

Gyeonggi Province plans to complete system improvements reflecting user feedback by the end of this year and to begin full-scale implementation in administrative operations.

Kim Kibyeong, Director of AI at Gyeonggi Province, stated, "AI-powered work automation in the field of public administration is a valuable opportunity to experience changes in work practices brought about by AI in advance." He added, "We will strengthen the AI foundation to automate repetitive administrative tasks and minimize waste of administrative resources, thereby implementing highly efficient, resident-centered administration."
