Ulsan Ulju County Expands 'K-Drone Delivery'... From Logistics to Public Services

Full-Scale Demonstration Project by Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport
Delivery Up to 5kg, Alongside Coastal Patrols and Wildfire Monitoring

Ulsan Ulju County is accelerating its efforts to demonstrate future-oriented logistics using drones. The key focus is to expand beyond simple parcel delivery and develop a comprehensive drone-based administrative service that also incorporates public safety functions.

On July 7, Ulju County announced that it will expand the operation of the 'K-Drone Delivery Service' in 2025 as part of its drone demonstration city project. This initiative was selected through a public contest by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and is being implemented with 90 million won in national funding.

Since signing the project agreement in March, Ulju County has completed the necessary regulatory procedures, including obtaining special flight approval and establishing a drone safety management system. Step-by-step delivery demonstrations are currently underway from April 11 to November 28.

This year, drone deliveries are being operated on the Samnam·Sangbuk route and the Seosaeng route. The Samnam·Sangbuk route operates every Friday and Saturday, while the Seosaeng route is available daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. during the beach opening season (July to August).

On the Samnam·Sangbuk route, the following new locations have been added in addition to the existing stops: Jakcheonjeong Square, Dalbit·Byeolbit·Deungeok Alps Campground, Ulju Sports Complex, Ulju Sports Park, and Sujeong Senior Center.

The Seosaeng route continues to operate at the same locations as last year: Myeongseon Bridge (toward Jinha), Palgakjeong, Marine Leisure Sports Center, Daebawi·Solgae·Songjeong Park, Ganjeolgot Sports Park, Solgae Beach, and Songjeong Fishing Site.

This year, Ulju County is also focusing on upgrading the service. A multi-order system has been introduced, allowing users to place orders from several stores at once, and the maximum payload capacity for drone deliveries has been increased to 5 kilograms.

In addition to deliveries, public safety services are also being provided. On the Samnam·Sangbuk route, drones are used for patrols in vulnerable areas and wildfire monitoring, while on the Seosaeng route, they are used for coastline patrols.

An Ulju County official stated, "K-Drone Delivery is emerging as a leading example of smart administration that not only innovates logistics but also takes responsibility for local public safety," adding, "We plan to continuously expand the scope of drone-based services by connecting with various sectors."
