A man in his 50s was arrested in Jinju, Gyeongnam, after wandering around the city armed with a weapon while intoxicated.
The Jinju Police Station announced on July 7, 2025, that they had apprehended and detained a man in his 50s, referred to as Mr. A, who was walking around wielding a weapon while drunk on a street in Ihyeon-dong, Jinju, on June 30, 2025.
The police responded to a report stating, "A drunk person is walking around with a weapon," and arrested Mr. A at the scene.
Additionally, the police analyzed 112 emergency calls filed against Mr. A over the past year and conducted field investigations, confirming damages suffered by small business owners.
As a result, it was revealed that from June 16 to June 30, 2025, Mr. A committed three cases of business obstruction in the Jinju area, including hospitals, convenience stores, and bars, by shouting profanities and threatening to hit employees and customers while intoxicated.
Previously, the Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency had focused on cracking down on such everyday violence, arresting 640 individuals and detaining 20 of them between April 1 and June 30, 2025.
The police plan to extend the crackdown period until October 31, 2025, and continue to respond strictly.
A police official stated, "Perpetrators of everyday violence often repeatedly target residents of the same neighborhood, and victims are frequently unable to provide statements due to fear of retaliation. However, in order to ensure swift arrests and prevent further harm, we urge everyone to actively report such incidents to 112 immediately, regardless of the extent of the damage."
