At the inauguration ceremony for the “Task Force for Responding to Politically Motivated Prosecution Manipulation” held at the National Assembly in Yeouido on the morning of July 7, Kim Byungki, acting party leader and floor leader, stated, “I believe the task force will prompt the prosecution to reflect on itself and resolve these issues, paving the way for prosecution reform. The Democratic Party will ensure that the dark history of politically motivated prosecutions comes to an end.”

According to task force spokesperson Lee Geontae, the task force will investigate the truth behind cases suspected to involve manipulated indictments by the prosecution, including the Daejang-dong case, the Ssangbangwool remittance to North Korea case, the case involving Kim Yong, deputy director of the Institute for Democracy, and the Alpensia bid-rigging case. The task force is headed by top council member Han Junho, with Kim Yongmin and Choi Kisang serving as co-deputy heads, and Kim Gipyo, Park Sunwon, Yang Bunam, and Lee Geontae as members.

Han Junho, head of the task force, said, “It has been one month since the Lee Jaemyung administration was inaugurated, and during this short period, there has been discussion about how forced the prosecution’s indictments were. It has been confirmed that President Lee Jaemyung was not involved, as a person related to the Ssangbangwool remittance to North Korea revealed the truth.” He added, “The task force will respond firmly to the actions of those with connections to the politically motivated prosecution.”

The Task Force for Responding to Politically Motivated Prosecution Manipulation is separate from the “Prosecution Reform Task Force,” which discusses prosecution reform legislation. Moon Jinseok, senior deputy floor leader of the Democratic Party, told reporters before the inauguration ceremony, “The Prosecution Reform Task Force is closely discussing reform measures with government ministries, including whether to separate the right to indict and the right to prosecute. The Prosecution Reform Task Force was established to accelerate prosecution reform, as the floor leader has pledged to do so as quickly as possible.”
