Korea and ASEAN Join Forces to Bridge Transport Infrastructure Gaps with AI

Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to Host 15th Korea-ASEAN Transport Cooperation Forum in Seoul
Event to Focus on "AI-Based Solutions for Smarter and Safer Mobility in ASEAN"
Roadmap for Next Five Years of Korea-ASEAN Transport Cooperation to Be Announced
One-on-One Business Meetings Scheduled Between ASEAN Delegations and Korean Companies

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced that it will hold the 15th Korea-ASEAN Transport Cooperation Forum in Seoul on July 8. This annual event, which has been held since 2010 to establish an efficient transportation system and enhance connectivity in the Southeast Asian region, brings together high-ranking officials from the transport ministries of the 10 ASEAN member countries to share Korea's transportation technologies and policies and to conduct business consultations.

The theme of this year's event is "AI-Based Solutions for Smarter and Safer Mobility in ASEAN." The ministry explained that, although the digital foundations of transportation infrastructure vary by country, the adoption of AI technology can enable efficient operation of transport systems even in areas lacking physical infrastructure. This is why the topic was selected for this year's forum.

During the forum, a roadmap outlining the implementation plan for Korea-ASEAN transport cooperation projects over the next five years will be announced. In addition, each ASEAN country will present its plans for digitalization in the transport sector, including the adoption of AI. Presentations by Korean government officials and experts are scheduled, focusing on the use of AI and related case studies in land, aviation, and maritime transport sectors.

On July 9, one-on-one business meetings will be held between delegations from each ASEAN country and Korean companies by sector. Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Park Sangwoo stated, "Korea will work closely with ASEAN to build a sustainable transportation system utilizing AI, based on our accumulated expertise in ICT-based smart infrastructure and autonomous driving."
