10 Artists to Begin Activities in Yeonghae
Opportunities for Start-up, Fishing Village, and Farming Village Experiences
On July 7, the Gyeongbuk Provincial Government Office announced that it will operate the 'Yeonghae Neighbor Village Local Living Experience' program, a residency program designed to encourage young people to settle in the region and expand the local residential population, from July to December.
The program targets young people under the age of 39 who are not currently residing in the Gyeongbuk area. It consists of three types of short- and long-term residency programs (three weeks for start-up, two weeks for fishing village, one week for farming village) and two programs aimed at boosting the residential population (incentive travel and a non-face-to-face trekking challenge).
The long- and short-term residency program 'Entrepreneurship Dreams in Yeonghae' will recruit 10 young people interested in local start-ups for three weeks starting August 11, providing local experiences and start-up education. 'The Sea I Dreamed Of' will be held twice in July (10 participants per session), offering fishing village experiences and a scuba diving certification course.
'Tried Living in the Countryside' will be held twice in October (10 participants per session), providing agricultural work experiences and opportunities for interaction with local residents to explore the possibility of settling in rural areas. The 'Yeonghae Membership Incentive Tour' will run from June to October, with at least 25 small groups (2-5 people) per month and a total of over 125 teams. Visitors who enjoy tours including accommodation, food and beverage, and experiences and meet certain requirements will receive local gift certificates.
Finally, the 'Trekking Mission Challenge' will be held non-face-to-face from July to November, combining missions with unique Yeonghae courses to offer both fun and rewards for visiting the area.
The Gyeongbuk Provincial Government Office plans to stimulate the local economy by promoting consumption in accommodation, food and beverage, experiences, and gift certificates, while also supporting young people in building relationships with the region and settling down naturally.
In addition, starting July 7, 10 young artists from outside the region, including Seoul and Busan, who were recruited to strengthen the local cultural and artistic foundation and revitalize the area, will begin five months of residency in Yeonghae. Artists from various fields such as beatboxing, web novels, performance art, and comics will engage in creative activities inspired by Yeonghae.
Moon Taekyung, Director of Local Era Policy at the Gyeongbuk Provincial Government Office, stated, "This living experience program is the starting point for building relationships between young people and the region," adding, "We will spare no effort to support young people so that they can stay and settle here, rather than just being transient visitors."
