Dongjak District to Launch "24-Hour Daycare Center" with Direct Operation Starting This September

For children from 6 months to preschool age
"We will create a safe care system"

On July 7, the Dongjak District Office in Seoul announced that it will directly operate a "24-hour daycare center" within the district office, coinciding with the opening ceremony of its new office building in September this year.

Dongjak District expects that the 24-hour daycare center will serve as a practical alternative to safely protect children, especially as recent concerns over gaps in childcare have grown following the apartment fire incident in Busan.

Dongjak District to Launch "24-Hour Daycare Center" with Direct Operation Starting This September Park Ilha, mayor of Dongjak District, attended the childcare meeting held last March at the Seoul Dongjak-gu Public Kim Youngsam Library and listened to the suggestions of parents of infants and toddlers. The 24-hour daycare center is being promoted with a focus on addressing blind spots in childcare and preventing situations where children are left alone. The district plans to provide a "Dongjak-style customized childcare service" for infants and toddlers who require care due to parents’ night shifts, emergencies, or unavoidable schedules.

The service is available for children from 6 months old up to preschool age. The operating hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. the following day, and it can be used year-round for a minimum of 3 hours and up to 24 hours per session, without any days off.

The district also operates the "Dongjak-style childcare helper" service for families who need daytime care on weekdays. This service dispatches professional caregivers directly to homes to provide customized care for children from 12 months up to 6 years old. Applications can be made through the Dongjak District Childcare Support Center website up to two weeks before the desired date of use.

Park Ilha, mayor of Dongjak District, stated, "The 24-hour daycare center is more than just an extension of regular childcare hours; it demonstrates our strong commitment to creating a safe care system where children are never left alone in crisis situations." He added, "We will enhance the public nature and quality of childcare so that parents can focus on their economic activities with peace of mind, and we will build a system that ensures both the emotional stability and safety of children."
