YouTube Short-form Ads Parodying "Squid Game" and Kakao Banner Campaigns
Screen Ads at 15 Bus Stops Across Seoul, Including Gwanghwamun and Gangnam
The Financial Supervisory Service, together with the Korea Life Insurance Association and the Korea Non-Life Insurance Association, announced on July 6 that they will conduct an intensive public campaign to prevent insurance fraud from this month through the end of the year.
Starting on July 17, they will launch a short-form YouTube advertisement parodying the drama "Squid Game." The video will be distributed via YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and other platforms, and will also be broadcast within insurance companies.
Beginning next month, for one month, screen advertisements related to sentencing guidelines for insurance fraud will be displayed on large screens at 15 bus stops across Seoul, including in Gwanghwamun and Gangnam.
The Supreme Court Sentencing Commission revised the sentencing guidelines, and as of July 1, medical professionals and insurance industry workers indicted for insurance fraud can now face enhanced punishment, up to life imprisonment.
Starting July 21, for one month, online banner advertisements will also run on Kakao. A fixed banner with a message about strengthened penalties for insurance fraud will be displayed at the top of the KakaoTalk screen. Clicking the banner will direct users to a page with information on how to report insurance fraud and details about reward programs.

Last year, the total amount uncovered in insurance fraud cases reached 1.1502 trillion won, marking the highest level ever recorded. The methods are becoming increasingly sophisticated and organized, with hospitals, clinics, and insurance planners participating systematically.
The Financial Supervisory Service plans to collaborate with the Korea Life Insurance Association and the Korea Non-Life Insurance Association to implement additional measures, such as providing voice navigation alerts in areas with frequent intentional car accidents, and conducting publicity campaigns targeting the general public and medical institutions.
In addition to preventive activities against insurance fraud, the agency will closely cooperate with related organizations such as the police, the National Health Insurance Service, the Korea Life Insurance Association, the Korea Non-Life Insurance Association, and insurance companies to ensure strict punishment for offenders.
If you are aware of a suspected case of insurance fraud, visit the Financial Supervisory Service website, click on "Complaints/Reports" at the top left, then proceed to "Illegal Finance Report Center" → "Insurance Fraud Report" → "Report" to submit your tip.
A representative from the Financial Supervisory Service stated, "You should firmly reject any suspicious offers that do not make sense," and urged, "If you know of any suspected cases of insurance fraud, please actively report them to the Financial Supervisory Service or to the insurance company's insurance fraud reporting center."
