Counter-Protests Demand "Immediate Arrest"

On July 5, as the second summons investigation by the special prosecutor into former President Yoon Sukyeol was underway, rallies both calling for his arrest and opposing it were held near the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office building.

Supporters of former President Yoon, led by YouTuber An Jungkwon, held a rally near the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office at around 3 p.m. that day.

Wearing red headbands inscribed with "Arrest Lee Jaemyung," they waved Taegukgi and American flags while chanting slogans such as "Stop political oppression" and "Put Lee Jaemyung on trial." They also criticized the special prosecutor for summoning former President Yoon for questioning.

After the rally, the group planned to march toward the Seoul Express Bus Terminal. According to unofficial police estimates, about 2,500 people participated in the rally.

The progressive group Candlelight Action held a "Candlelight March" rally near Gyodae Station at around 6 p.m. Unofficial police estimates put the crowd at 500 people.

Participants chanted slogans such as "Immediately arrest insurrection leaders Yoon Sukyeol and Kim Keonhee" and "Disband the hypocritical criminal group People Power Party," while waving placards bearing the same messages. After the rally, they planned to march toward the Gangnam Station area.

YouTuber JeongchihanJan and others supporting President Lee Jaemyung also held a rally in front of the Seoul Central District Court Complex, demanding the arrest of former President Yoon. The conservative group New Freedom Solidarity held a nearby rally condemning President Lee and the special prosecutor.
