Stared at Stranger... When Asked "Why Are You Looking?", Responded with Weapon Threat

Repeat Offender with a History of Violence
Commits Another Crime Just One Month After Release

A man in his 40s who stared at a stranger on the street and, when questioned in protest, responded by brandishing a weapon and making threats, has once again been sentenced to prison. It was confirmed that he has a prior record of committing multiple violent crimes in the past.

According to Yonhap News on July 5, Kim Taekseong, the presiding judge of the Chuncheon District Court Criminal Division 2, recently sentenced Mr. A (46) to eight months in prison on charges of special intimidation.

Previously, on the night of May 25, Mr. A kept staring at Mr. B (49) and his spouse as they were organizing their belongings by the roadside. When Mr. B asked, "Why do you keep looking at us?" Mr. A responded by saying, "You're picking a fight," and an argument ensued.

Afterwards, Mr. A swung his fist at Mr. B's face and even brandished a weapon to threaten him, leading to his indictment.

It is known that Mr. A was previously sentenced to six months in prison for property damage in November of last year. He committed this latest offense just about a month after being released from prison in April of this year.

The court explained the sentencing by stating, "The defendant has a history of multiple punishments for violent crimes in the past, and this offense was also committed during the repeat offender period. Considering these factors, an appropriate prison sentence is unavoidable."
