Democratic Party: "We Will Protect the Golden Time for Livelihood Recovery with Lee Administration's First Supplementary Budget"

"Wishing for Vitality in the Damaged Economy"
"People Power Party Obsessed with Obstructing State Affairs"

The Democratic Party of Korea welcomed the passage of the first supplementary budget bill under the Lee Jaemyung administration in the National Assembly on July 4, stating, "We hope that this will inject vitality into the damaged South Korean economy and offer even a small measure of hope to the people who are suffering."

Kim Seonghoe, spokesperson for the Democratic Party, said in a statement on the same day, "Now is the time to focus on people's livelihoods. The Democratic Party will do its utmost, together with the new administration, to protect the golden time for the recovery of people's livelihoods."

Spokesperson Kim emphasized, "The reason the new administration, which started without even a transition committee, was able to finalize the supplementary budget within 30 days of its inauguration is because it kept in mind the people's mandate to quickly revive the economy and stabilize people's livelihoods."

He went on to explain, "Taking into account the circumstances of each local government, we raised the central government subsidy rate for livelihood recovery consumption coupons and increased support funds for non-metropolitan and depopulated areas. For some projects, we re-examined the implementation status and reduced unnecessary spending to lower the burden on the public."

Spokesperson Kim criticized, "The People Power Party, which was preoccupied with obstructing state affairs instead of focusing on people's livelihoods, ultimately did not participate in the review of the supplementary budget and ignored the suffering of the people. Along with the incompetent Yoon Sukyeol administration, the People Power Party, as an accomplice that has thoroughly damaged South Korea, does not seem to feel even the slightest sense of responsibility for the current economic crisis and the collapse of people's livelihoods."

On this day, the National Assembly held a plenary session and passed the supplementary budget bill, increasing the amount by 1.3 trillion won from the government's proposal of 30.5 trillion won to a total of 31.8 trillion won. Out of 182 members present, 168 voted in favor, 3 against, and 11 abstained. The People Power Party did not participate in the vote, demanding an apology from the ruling party regarding the restoration of special activity funds for the presidential office.
