Russia has stated that it prefers to resolve the Ukraine issue through political and diplomatic means. However, it said that this is currently impossible, so it will continue its "special military operation."
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said in a briefing on July 4 (local time) that, referring to the phone call between President Vladimir Putin and former U.S. President Donald Trump, "During the call, President Putin reiterated that we are interested in achieving the goals of the special military operation and that we prefer to do so through political and diplomatic means. However, at present, this is not possible, so we must continue the special military operation in Ukraine."
Russia has set the goals of the special military operation as the denazification, demilitarization, denuclearization, and non-alignment of Ukraine. Russia insists that any resolution of the conflict must take into account the reality that it occupies Ukrainian territory.
