Hong Nayoung Urges Withdrawal of Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries Relocation Plan
Hong Nayoung, the floor leader of the People Power Party in the Sejong City Council, is holding a solo picket protest at the Daejeon Convention Center visited by President Lee Jae Myung.
On July 4, several Sejong City Council members affiliated with the People Power Party staged a protest against the relocation of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries to Busan at the Daejeon Convention Center in Yuseong-gu, Daejeon, where President Lee Jae Myung was holding a Town Hall Meeting.
On this day, Hong Nayoung, the floor leader of the People Power Party in the Sejong City Council, along with Vice Chairman Kim Dongbin, and council members Kim Chungsik, Kim Kwangun, and Choi Wonseok, continued their picket protest and other performance demonstrations in opposition.
In particular, People Power Party-affiliated district councilors, city councilors, and party chapter heads held a joint press conference, raising their voices to stress the need to uphold the principle of balanced national development. They argued that the relocation of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries is a decision that runs counter to the completion of the administrative capital, and that it is a hasty administrative move that disregards both verification and due process.
Hong Nayoung, the floor leader, emphasized, "The relocation of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries is a decision that goes against the wishes of not only Sejong citizens but also all people who hope for balanced national development for the future of Korea," and strongly urged the President to withdraw the relocation plan in accordance with his governing philosophy and the fundamental principle of balanced development.
Meanwhile, since the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries is currently located in Sejong, People Power Party Sejong City Council members, as well as party lawmakers from the Chungcheong region, plan to continue their efforts to block the government ministry's relocation.
