With Chungnam Province and Daejeon City currently pursuing administrative integration, officials visited Dangjin and Gyeryong to listen to local residents' opinions and build consensus.
The Daejeon-Chungnam Administrative Integration Public-Private Council held resident briefing sessions on the 4th, visiting the Dangjin City Hall Auditorium and the multipurpose hall of the Gyeryong Culture and Arts Center in succession.
Each local session was attended by about 400 people, including Oh Seonghwan, Mayor of Dangjin, Lee Eungwoo, Mayor of Gyeryong, provincial council members Hong Gihu and Lee Haeseon, city council chairpersons and council members, local residents, and public officials.
At the beginning of the briefing, Baek Unseong, Director of Research Planning at the Chungnam Institute, and Ko Seunghee, Head of the Social Integration Research Office, explained the current status of the Daejeon-Chungnam administrative integration initiative.
The discussion featured Jeong Jaekeun, Co-Chair of the Daejeon-Chungnam Administrative Integration Public-Private Council, Shin Youngho, Chair of the Daejeon-Chungnam Administrative Integration Special Committee (provincial council member), and local leaders from Dangjin and Gyeryong. They exchanged views, addressed questions from residents, and received suggestions during a Q&A session.
Chairman Jeong Jaekeun stated, "If Daejeon-Chungnam becomes a special city, we expect a significant improvement in residents' quality of life, such as the establishment of a 60-minute living zone through a metropolitan transportation network, as well as stronger support for regional priority projects."
Meanwhile, since June 23, starting in Hongseong County, the Public-Private Council has been holding a series of resident briefing sessions across cities and counties to share the necessity of Daejeon-Chungnam administrative integration with residents and gather diverse opinions. The tour of resident briefing sessions is scheduled to continue until July 8.
