Presidential Office: President Lee Briefed in Detail on North Korean Individual Who Crossed MDL

Presidential spokesperson Kang Yoojung announced that President Lee Jaemyung was briefed on July 4 regarding the military's securing of custody of one North Korean individual who crossed the Military Demarcation Line (MDL).

During a briefing at the presidential office in Yongsan earlier that morning, spokesperson Kang stated, "The president was briefed on the situation, and I understand that the individual is currently being investigated by relevant authorities after being taken into custody." She added, "While it is difficult to specify the exact time, I understand that the report was made."


Later in the afternoon, spokesperson Kang further reported, "President Lee received an additional detailed briefing on the securing of custody from National Security Office Director Wi Sunglak and Chief of Staff Kang Hunsik."


Previously, the Joint Chiefs of Staff announced that on the night of July 3, the military secured custody of one North Korean individual who crossed the MDL in the mid-western front. The Joint Chiefs of Staff stated that, as of now, there have been no unusual movements by North Korean forces.
