Kim Moonsoo Says "PPP Can't Be Reformed in a Day or Two"... Remains Noncommittal on Party Leadership Bid

Kim Moonsoo, former Minister of Employment and Labor and the People Power Party's presidential candidate in the last election, showed a cautious stance on July 4 regarding whether he would run in the upcoming party convention, saying, "I'm not in a position to comment."

After visiting the National Assembly that day and meeting with Song Eonseok, interim leader and floor leader of the People Power Party, Kim told reporters, "Even the date of the party convention hasn't been set yet," making the above remarks.

When asked about speculation that he might run for governor of North Gyeongsang Province, he replied, "Not at all," and added, "I don't understand why people are saying that someone who just lost the presidential election should run for governor of North Gyeongsang Province."

Regarding areas where the People Power Party needs improvement, he said, "There is a significant difference compared to the Democratic Party," and added, "This is not something that can be resolved in a day or two; it will take considerable time."

On the party's approval ratings, he commented, "It is not the right attitude for a politician to be overly swayed by public opinion," and emphasized, "What is more important is whether the country is heading in the right direction." Regarding the appointment of Representative Ahn Cheolsoo as the new chairman of the party's Innovation Committee, he said, "I believe he will do a very good job and that he is a suitable choice for Innovation Committee chairman."

He refrained from evaluating the first month of the Lee Jaemyung administration. Kim said, "There is a lot I could say, but I will save it for another opportunity."

He continued, "There are currently 60,000 people in prison, but can they really accept being there?" He added, "A representative example is Lee Hwayoung, the Vice Governor of Gyeonggi Province, who was sentenced to seven years and eight months in prison, but the main culprit is President Lee Jaemyung," he claimed.
