Musk's Korean Post Draws Attention Amid xAI's Rapid AI Pursuit
Announces Plan for 'America Party' in Response to Trump’s Tax Bill
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, has attracted attention by posting "I am awake" in Korean on his social media. On the 3rd (local time), Musk posted a meme photo satirizing the artificial intelligence (AI) competition landscape on X (formerly Twitter). The image, edited from a scene in the American drama "Person of Interest," shows AI startups Anthropic, Cursor, and Musk's own xAI aiming guns at each other in succession, while Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) is seen targeting them all from a distance. When a user commented on the photo with "Elon, awake," Musk replied in Korean, "I am awake."

Musk's Korean-language reply has drawn even more attention as xAI is rapidly accelerating its pursuit in the AI sector. Recently, xAI has been ramping up competition with major tech companies such as OpenAI, Meta, and Google in developing AI models, while making large-scale capital investments in building data centers and related infrastructure. On July 1, xAI raised an additional $10 billion (approximately 13.6 trillion won) through bond issuance, loans, and equity investments. According to local media, this latest funding round is seen as a strategic move for xAI to compete head-on with rivals like Anthropic.
Meanwhile, as Musk is currently experiencing tensions with U.S. President Donald Trump, a large number of Chinese netizens are sending messages of support to Musk, who is at odds with President Trump over a major tax cut bill. Musk is widely regarded as a prominent pro-China figure in the United States. In particular, Musk maintains a close relationship with Chinese Premier Li Qiang. When Musk built Tesla's Gigafactory in Shanghai, Li Qiang was then the Communist Party Secretary of Shanghai. Premier Li provided extensive support for the construction of the Tesla factory, including guaranteeing 100% ownership of the company.
After the tax cut bill, which President Trump described as "one big, beautiful bill," passed the Senate, Musk strongly expressed his opposition to the legislation. Subsequently, Musk announced, "I will establish a third party called the 'America Party'." His plan is to create a party representing the American centrist voters who are disillusioned with the existing two-party system. Following Musk's announcement of his new party, the hashtag '#MuskWantsToBuildAnAmericaParty' has garnered over 37 million views on China's social media platform Weibo, reflecting its popularity. One Chinese netizen commented on Weibo, "If Musk establishes a political party, his technology-driven mindset could inject new energy into politics." Another user wrote, "Musk, more than a billion Chinese people support you."
