Kim Minseok, the newly appointed Prime Minister, will preside over the first high-level party-government consultation meeting under the Lee Jaemyung administration on July 6. Since his nomination, Prime Minister Kim has consistently emphasized "economic and livelihood recovery," and he plans to put inflation and heatwave countermeasures on the agenda for discussion.
According to the Office for Government Policy Coordination on July 4, the first high-level party-government consultation meeting will be held at the Prime Minister's official residence in Jongno-gu, Seoul. Attendees from the ruling Democratic Party include Kim Byungki, acting party leader and floor leader, Kim Yoonduk, secretary-general, and Jin Sungjun, policy committee chair. From the Presidential Office, Kang Hunsik, Chief Presidential Secretary, Kim Yongbeom, Policy Chief, Woo Sangho, Senior Secretary for Political Affairs, Ha Junkyung, Senior Secretary for Economic Growth, and Ryu Deokhyun, Assistant Secretary for Fiscal Planning, will participate.
On the government side, Yoon Changryeol, Chief of the Office for Government Policy Coordination, Lee Hyungil, Acting Minister and First Vice Minister of Economy and Finance, Kim Kwangyong, Director of Disaster and Safety Management at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, Song Miryung, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, and Kim Seongbeom, Vice Minister of Oceans and Fisheries, will attend. There is also a possibility that these high-level party-government meetings will be held regularly in the future.
Meanwhile, on July 4, Prime Minister Kim will meet with representatives of farmers' organizations holding a protest rally near the Presidential Office in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, as his first official external engagement since taking office. Immediately after his confirmation by the National Assembly, Prime Minister Kim stated on social media that he would "implement the President's policy direction from the ground up." He is expected to exchange views on current issues with representatives of farmers' organizations who oppose the retention of Minister Song.
In the afternoon, Prime Minister Kim will pay his respects at the Seoul National Cemetery and then visit National Assembly Speaker Woo Wonsik. The official inauguration ceremony as the 49th Prime Minister is scheduled for early next week.
