Wando County Completes 'Gogeum Deokamsan Ecological Park' One Year Ahead of Schedule

20 Billion Won Invested
A Healing Destination with Trails and Convenient Facilities

Wando County in South Jeolla Province announced on July 4 that it had completed the 'Gogeum Deokamsan Ecological Park' project, led by the Ministry of Environment, one year ahead of the original schedule.

This project was originally planned to be carried out over three years, from 2024 to 2026. However, the county secured early funding through continuous consultations with South Jeolla Province, allowing the project to be completed in just two years.

The ecological park, with a total project cost of 2 billion won, was established in Cheongyong-ri, Gogeum-myeon. Centered around a 1-kilometer ecological trail, the park features various healing facilities such as swing chairs, a treehouse, hammock benches, and forest therapy chairs.

In addition, landscape lighting and walkways were installed to ensure that residents can safely enjoy walks at night. The park is also equipped with a parking lot for 15 vehicles, a forest deck stage, restrooms, and other convenience facilities.

The park is planted with 276 trees of 8 different species, including crape myrtle, western rosa rugosa, and chionanthus retusus; 33,000 shrubs of 8 species, including gardenia and callicarpa; and 67,000 herbaceous flowers, including hydrangea, peony, liriope, and lycoris, allowing visitors to enjoy flowers and greenery throughout all four seasons.

On June 5, the county held a resident briefing session attended by village leaders from Gogeum-myeon, local residents, and Kim Yanghun, chairperson of the Wando County Council, to explain the status of the park's development and its future management plans.

Park Eunjae, head of the Forest Recreation Division, said, "We hope that Gogeum Deokamsan Ecological Park will become a local landmark that offers rest and healing in nature for visitors. Going forward, we will continue to manage and operate the park as a sustainable ecological space in cooperation with the local community."
