Sharing Updates on Wolreung IC and Discussing Regional Coexistence Strategies
Jungnang-gu, Seoul will hold a 'Dongbu Expressway Undergrounding Private Investment Project Resident Briefing Session' at the Muk 2-dong Culture and Sports Complex Center on the 11th of this month.
At this briefing session, plans for the entrance and exit of Wolreung IC, which is part of the private investment section of the Dongbu Expressway undergrounding project currently being promoted by the Seoul Metropolitan Government, will be presented. The session will also provide information on future construction schedules, gather residents' opinions, and discuss measures for regional coexistence.
The Dongbu Expressway Undergrounding Private Investment Project aims to begin construction in 2024 and open in 2029. The project will connect Wolreung IC in Jungnang-gu to Gunja Station and Cheongdam, significantly improving local accessibility and connectivity between urban areas. In particular, once the road is moved underground, access to Jungnangcheon, which was previously cut off by the above-ground road, will be greatly enhanced.
The above-ground section will be developed into a riverside-themed park, allowing residents to directly access cultural and leisure facilities such as the Jungnangcheon riverside, park golf course, rose garden, and walking trails without having to use pedestrian overpasses.
Starting in the second half of this year, the district will also implement measures to minimize inconvenience and ensure safety for residents, such as temporarily relocating some sections of the Rose Festival Road, restricting construction vehicles from entering Jungnangcheon-ro, and increasing the distance between roads and facilities.
Ryu Kyunggi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, stated, "The Dongbu Expressway undergrounding project is a key driver for transforming Jungnang into a future-oriented city," and added, "We will take a leading role in enhancing the vibrancy and value of the city through close cooperation with the Seoul Metropolitan Government."
