Gwangju City has continued to succeed in attracting cultural content companies from the Seoul metropolitan area. Since the launch of the 8th popularly elected administration, a total of 17 content companies have established a presence in Gwangju, with this marking the fifth such achievement just this year.
On July 3, Gwangju City signed a business agreement for the investment promotion district with Oasis Studio Co., Ltd., a visual effects (VFX) specialist, and Louis Works Media Co., Ltd., a global entertainment production company, in the city hall business room.
According to the agreement, the two companies will establish their headquarters or subsidiaries at the Gwangju Content Hub, located on the 5th floor of Jeonil Building 245, and plan to newly hire a total of 90 local talents. In particular, by prioritizing the recruitment of local youth, the companies are expected to contribute to the creation of youth jobs. The city will provide comprehensive support to these companies, including administrative assistance, tax and location incentives, and access to cultural content infrastructure.
This achievement is the result of a content company attraction strategy utilizing the investment promotion district system. It is expected to contribute to local job creation and the strengthening of the industrial base, serving as a turning point for Gwangju to become a leading city in the content industry.
Oasis Studio Co., Ltd., established in 2022, is a visual effects (VFX) specialist that has produced VFX content for global platforms, including Disney+'s "Connect," Netflix's "Money Heist: Korea - Joint Economic Area Part 2," and JTBC's "The Good Bad Mother." Through this agreement, the company plans to establish a subsidiary in Gwangju and hire 60 employees.
Louis Works Media Co., Ltd. is a planning and production specialist that has created hit entertainment content such as "Physical: 100" and "Street Woman Fighter," which have gained significant popularity both domestically and internationally. The company plans to relocate its headquarters to Gwangju and hire 30 local talents.
Previously, Qroad Co., Ltd., which was attracted to the Gwangju Content Hub last year, hired 70 local talents. Including the current agreement, a total of 160 jobs are expected to be created.
The city is fostering practical content professionals through the operation of the GCC Academy and is building a virtuous cycle of company attraction and job creation by combining the benefits of the investment promotion district.
Mayor Kang Gijeong stated, "Gwangju is a city equipped with content infrastructure, professional talent, and policy support." He added, "We expect these newly attracted companies to become key players leading Gwangju's content industry."
