Chungnam Province and Daejeon City held a meeting to listen to the opinions of Boryeong citizens regarding the Daejeon-Chungnam administrative integration.


The Daejeon-Chungnam administrative integration public-private consultative body held a resident briefing session on the 3rd at the Boryeong City Culture and Arts Center Grand Performance Hall.


Approximately 500 people attended the event, including Kim Dongil, Mayor of Boryeong, provincial council members Pyeon Sambum and Choi Gwanghee, Choi Eunsun, Chairperson of the Boryeong City Council, other city council members, local residents, and public officials.


At the briefing session, Baek Unseong, Head of Research Planning at the Chungnam Institute, explained the current status of the Daejeon-Chungnam administrative integration initiative. Discussions and Q&A sessions were held on topics such as the rationale and expected effects of the integration, as well as strategies for public consensus to gain resident approval.


During the discussion, a variety of opinions were presented by Jeong Jaegun, Co-chair of the Daejeon-Chungnam administrative integration public-private consultative body, Shin Youngho, Chairperson of the Special Committee on Administrative Integration of Chungnam and Daejeon (provincial council member), Choi Eunsun, Chairperson of the Boryeong City Council, and Lim Sangwan, Chairperson of the Boryeong City National Unification Advisory Council. Afterwards, participants communicated and exchanged opinions with the attending residents.


Chairperson Jeong Jaegun emphasized, "If the Daejeon-Chungnam Special City is established, the region's economy will be revitalized by achieving successful energy transition through the Opportunity Development Zone and by attracting investment and establishing infrastructure for various energy companies. With the designation of development target islands by the special city mayor and administrative and financial support from the national government, Boryeong City is expected to develop into the best marine leisure tourism city in Korea."


Meanwhile, resident briefing sessions are scheduled to be held sequentially in all 15 cities and counties in the province by July 8.
