The Baekdudaegan Seed Vault is a facility established to store plant seeds in preparation for natural disasters caused by climate change, environmental pollution, and disasters such as war.

Previously, in 2020, the Korea National Arboretum Management Institute signed a memorandum of understanding with the Agricultural Science Institute, agreeing to cooperate in preserving national agricultural genetic resources.

Based on this agreement, the Korea National Arboretum Management Institute has duplicately stored and completed the storage of 187,000 agricultural seeds held by the Agricultural Genetic Resources Center in the Baekdudaegan Seed Vault over a period of six years.

Shim Sangtaek, Chairman of the Korea National Arboretum Management Institute, stated, "The preservation of agricultural genetic resources is a crucial issue directly linked to the nation's future food security," and added, "The Korea National Arboretum Management Institute will continue to work closely with the Agricultural Science Institute to ensure the safe duplicate storage of agricultural seeds."
