Discussion on Support for Students with Migrant Backgrounds with Superintendent Kim Daejung
Proposal for International Exchange between High Schools in Jeonnam and Cambodia

The Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education announced on July 3 that, on the previous day, officials from the Cambodia Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports and principals of schools that have adopted Korean language visited Jeonnam to share education policies and discuss ways to cooperate in education between the two countries.

This visit included 23 members of the Cambodian education sector, including But Samith, Assistant Minister of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports. They visited Daebul Elementary School in Yeongam, Jeonnam, where they directly observed Korean language classes and toured school facilities such as special classrooms and the library to examine the educational environment on site.

During meetings with faculty and staff, explanations were provided regarding customized curricula and the organization of Korean language classes to support foreign students' language adaptation and school life, multicultural understanding education, and strategies for communicating with parents. The Cambodian delegation commented, "We were impressed by the student-centered class operations and the systematic education system."

The delegation then visited the Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education to meet with Superintendent Kim Daejung and discuss tailored educational support measures for Cambodian students, who make up a significant proportion of students with migrant backgrounds in Jeonnam.

Since last year, the provincial office has been promoting a Korean language education cooperation project with Cambodia. In October of last year, 16 teachers from Jeonnam visited Cambodia to conduct training for local Korean language teachers, and additional training is scheduled for July this year. In particular, this year, the plan is to expand to practical class exchanges between teachers of both countries through collaborative lessons.

Superintendent Kim Daejung stated, "I hope this visit will serve as a solid stepping stone for international educational cooperation between the two countries," adding, "We will continue to expand international educational cooperation based on our expertise and experience in supporting students with migrant backgrounds and Korean language education."
