Complete End to Hostilities, Including Withdrawal from Gaza, Is a Condition
Trump Says "Israel Has Agreed to Ceasefire Proposal" the Previous Day
The Palestinian militant group Hamas has announced that it is reviewing a ceasefire proposal with Israel presented by U.S. President Donald Trump.
According to the Times of Israel and other sources, Hamas stated on July 2 (local time) that it is "conducting national consultations for discussions" regarding President Trump's proposal. The group added that its goal is to reach an agreement that guarantees an end to the aggression, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip, and support for residents within Gaza.
The previous day, President Trump posted on his social media platform Truth Social that "Israel has agreed to the necessary conditions to confirm a 60-day ceasefire," and that he has also pressured Hamas to accept the ceasefire proposal.
The Times of Israel, citing multiple negotiation sources, reported that the proposal includes a 60-day ceasefire period during which Hamas would release 10 surviving hostages and return the bodies of deceased hostages to Israel. The remaining hostages would be released after the end of the conflict. This proposal was reportedly delivered through Trump's aide, Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff, as well as the mediating countries Qatar and Egypt.
Taher Al-Nunu, a spokesperson for Hamas, told the Times of Israel that "we are ready to approach the agreement with a serious attitude," and added, "Hamas is prepared to accept any clear plan that leads to a complete end to the conflict."
This statement from Hamas came as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was visiting the United States ahead of a meeting with President Trump.
