Crackdown on Overcharging for Food and Accommodation at Vacation Spots
Suncheon City, South Jeolla Province (Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu), announced on July 3 that it has designated July and August as a special price stabilization period in line with the peak summer vacation season. The city will focus on intensive price management, including eradicating overcharging, particularly at major vacation spots within its jurisdiction.
This special measure period will run until August 31. The Tourism Division, Food Sanitation Division, departments responsible for agricultural, livestock, and fisheries products, as well as the local town and township offices overseeing vacation areas, will work together to conduct inspections and crackdowns.
Key areas under intensive management include Cheongsogol, the area around Sangsa Lake, Seonamsa Temple, and Yongoreum Valley, which are representative vacation destinations in the city. The city also plans to strictly crack down on excessive accommodation charges at lodging facilities within the Yeonhyang 3 District.
The special measures will focus on managing prices of summer peak season goods such as food at major vacation spots, accommodation fees, and vacation supplies. Specifically, the city will inspect for overcharging (excessive price increases), price fixing through collusion, compliance with price labeling and country-of-origin labeling systems, and sanitary conditions.
A city official stated, "We will do our utmost to manage prices so that both tourists and citizens can feel safe and satisfied during the summer vacation season," and added, "We ask for the active interest and cooperation of merchants and citizens to make Suncheon a city people want to visit again."
