Ahead of a by-election for the head of a local agricultural cooperative in Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju, defamatory mail targeting a specific candidate was sent to cooperative members, prompting a police investigation.

According to Gwangsan Police Station on July 3, a complaint was filed alleging that mail containing candidate A's past history and internal whistleblowing information from within the cooperative was sent to cooperative members. The mail in question was reportedly distributed ahead of the election and included real names.


The by-election for the cooperative head is scheduled for July 9, and the police are investigating the circumstances of the case, including whether there was a violation of the Act on the Election of Public Officials and the Entrustment of Election Affairs to Public Organizations.
