30th Anniversary of Korean Subsidiary
Building Mobility Infrastructure
BMW Group Korea announced on July 3 that, in celebration of the 30th anniversary of its establishment in Korea, it is focusing on building infrastructure tailored to the era of future mobility through long-term and strategic investments in foundational facilities.
First, the company plans to invest an additional 65 billion KRW by 2027 to expand its parts logistics center (RDC) in Anseong, Gyeonggi Province?the largest such facility among BMW’s overseas subsidiaries?by approximately 31,000 square meters. The expansion will incorporate advanced technologies, including a smart logistics system powered by artificial intelligence (AI), ergonomic designs that prioritize employee health, and a top-tier fire safety system. Additionally, a dedicated warehouse for electric vehicle batteries will be newly established.
BMW Group Korea also invested about 25 billion KRW in its vehicle distribution center (VDC) in 2016, increasing vehicle storage capacity from around 4,800 to 9,000 units. By 2023, the company had invested an additional 60 billion KRW to further expand the facilities overall.
As a result, the annual number of vehicles undergoing pre-delivery inspection (PDI) increased to 89,000 units as of 2024, with the center now capable of handling up to 110,000 vehicles. Vehicle storage capacity has also been raised from 11,000 to 18,000 units?the largest among imported car companies in Korea?enabling more vehicles to be delivered promptly.
The company is also accelerating investment in domestic research and development. In April, it relocated and expanded its existing R&D center from the BMW Driving Center to Cheongna International City in Incheon, reopening as the BMW Group R&D Center Korea. The facility is equipped with a variety of test labs, including maintenance and testing rooms, certification test rooms, an electric vehicle charger testing building, and research labs.
Furthermore, BMW Group Korea has installed a total of 2,400 chargers nationwide to date. It is also enhancing both the quality and quantity of its charging infrastructure by establishing premium charging spaces such as the 'BMW Charging Hub Lounge' near Seoul Station. By the end of the year, the company plans to install an additional 600 chargers?including 'ESG Charging Stations' that reflect eco-friendly values?bringing the total public charging infrastructure to 3,000 units.
