"An Isolated Figure... What Can He Possibly Achieve?"
Sangwook Kim, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, commented on the appointment of Ahn Cheolsoo as the chairman of the Innovation Committee of the People Power Party, stating, "It is nothing more than a token gesture."
On July 2, during an appearance on YTN Radio's "Shin Yul's News Jeongmyeonseungbu," Kim said, "We need to consider how much influence Representative Ahn actually has within the People Power Party," and added, "In order to truly move the party, there must be support from party members who have real power, support within the parliamentary group, or personal capability. However, Ahn has none of these." He continued, "Even if he lacks these elements, he is also not in a position to overcome such deficiencies and lead the party."
Kim further stated, "To genuinely drive innovation, one must have planning ability, willpower, competence, capability, and a support base. However, someone lacking all of these has been appointed." He criticized, "From my perspective, the People Power Party has no real intention to change, but is merely putting on a facade of change because they feel embarrassed."
When asked by the host, "Doesn't Representative Ahn have political capability, given his experience in founding a party?" Kim replied, "During my time in the People Power Party, I never saw any lawmakers who followed Ahn. He is thoroughly isolated. What can someone who is completely isolated accomplish?"
Regarding former People Power Party Emergency Response Committee Chairman Yongtae Kim's mention of a 'personnel purge,' Kim predicted, "It will not be possible." He said, "If the People Power Party is to at least fulfill the basic functions of an opposition party, a personnel purge is absolutely necessary. Renewal means change, does it not?" He pointed out, "That would require lawmakers to change, but that is not possible."
