A New Concept Solution for Air Purification, Ventilation, and Sterilization
Hyundai Elevator announced on July 3 that it has received the "Winner" award in the Concept category at the Red Dot Design Award 2025 in Germany.
The concept presented by Hyundai Elevator is an innovative air purification system, offering a new solution to alleviate passengers' anxiety about enclosed spaces, which has persisted since the COVID-19 pandemic.
The system incorporates advanced air purification, ventilation, and sterilization functions, expanding the traditional air purification unit?usually installed at the top of the elevator?into a surround system covering the upper, middle, and lower sections. It purifies the air by drawing in indoor pollutants and using a high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter along with UV light. This provides complete protection for passengers against invisible threats such as fine dust and viruses.
Although the number of devices has increased, the design remains refined and understated, creating a sense of luxury. The units are installed in the handrails, which serve as passenger supports, and at the lower section, enabling three-dimensional air circulation, purification, and sterilization from ceiling to floor. In particular, subtle lighting is integrated and synchronized with these devices, further enhancing the sophisticated atmosphere.
In April, Hyundai Elevator also received the Winner award in the Product category for its "Smart Hall Button," which combines a foot sensor and AI voice recognition functionality. The company was previously honored at the "iF Design Award" in 2022 and the "IDEA Design Award" in 2018. By consecutively winning all three of the world’s top design awards, Hyundai Elevator is seeing the results of the innovation-driven management emphasized by Hyundai Group Chairperson Hyun Jeong-eun.
A Hyundai Elevator representative stated, "This concept originated from the idea of transforming elevators from confined spaces into comfortable environments where people want to stay," and added, "We will continue to focus on developing customer-friendly products that ensure the safety and convenience of our passengers."
