More than 100 people attended the opening ceremony, including Lee Donghwan, mayor of Goyang Special City, local members of the National Assembly, provincial and city council members, the Gwansan-dong Community Leaders' Association, residents, and children. In particular, the children enjoyed the cool water playground and made the most of their summer.

The maximum water storage of the Gongneungcheon Water Playground is 150 tons, and the maximum water depth is 30 cm. In addition, the water quality is managed through a circulation system that includes a photocatalytic sterilizer, ensuring that children can enjoy water play in a safe and clean environment.

Furthermore, the city minimized the installation of artificial structures in order to preserve the natural environment of the stream. Instead, it created a grass lawn and planted reeds, providing a space where residents of Gwansan-dong and citizens can experience a pleasant riverside environment in their daily lives and harmonize with nature.

Lee Donghwan, mayor of Goyang Special City, said, "The Gongneungcheon Water Playground will be a valuable learning space where children can experience and learn about nature and the stream in their daily lives as they grow, as well as an ecological rest area for citizens. We will do our best to create an ecological stream and riverside space that citizens can truly experience, with the goal of making Gongneungcheon a place where people can wash up and dip their feet."

Goyang City is working to connect the disconnected sections of the Gongneungcheon walking trail (from Gwansan-dong Culture and Sports Park to the confluence with Byeokjecheon), and this year, the city secured 4 billion won in provincial funding to actively pursue the 'Gongneungcheon Low-Carbon Riverside Park Project.' The city plans to develop the Gongneungcheon area into Goyang's representative riverside space.
