Official Launch of Four Regional Shuttle Routes in January Next Year
Gathering Residents' Opinions Through "On-site Briefings"
Junggu District in Seoul is moving forward with the integrated operation of shuttle buses for public facilities, with plans to conduct a pilot run from September to December this year and officially launch the service in January next year. The institutional foundation for this project was established on July 2, when the "Ordinance on the Operation of Shuttle Buses for Public Facilities in Junggu, Seoul" passed the Junggu District Council.
Currently, four public facilities in Junggu?Chungmu Sports Center, Hoehyeon Sports Center, Sohn Kee-chung Sports Center, and Junggu Youth Center?operate their own shuttle buses. However, because these shuttle buses are run independently, usage has been limited to facility members, causing inconvenience for users.
The district plans to integrate these operations and establish new "resident-friendly routes" that improve accessibility not only to sports facilities but also to libraries, public health centers, community centers, and the Namsan Footpath, among other public facilities.
The shuttle buses will be 25-seater vehicles. Boarding passes will be issued via a dedicated app using QR codes, and for elderly passengers who may have difficulty using digital devices, a simple verification process will be provided to ensure ease of use for everyone. The service will be free for all visitors to Junggu public facilities, including those with limited mobility.
With the enactment of this ordinance, the district will accelerate preparations for the launch. This month, a route adjustment committee will prioritize areas that have consistently received complaints about transportation blind spots when finalizing the pilot routes. The installation of major stops, vehicle design, and the establishment of an operating system are all scheduled to be completed by August.
Before the pilot run, the district will also hold "on-site resident briefings." These briefings will be divided into four regions and will be held sequentially: Donghwa-dong Community Center (for Sindang 5-dong, Donghwa-dong, and Hwanghak-dong) on July 7; Dasan-dong Community Center (for Dasan-dong, Yaksu-dong, and Cheonggu-dong) on July 9; Sindang Nuri Center (for Pildong, Gwanghui-dong, Jangchung-dong, Euljiro-dong, and Sindang-dong) on July 10; and Jungnim-dong Community Center (for Sogong-dong, Hoehyeon-dong, Myeong-dong, and Jungnim-dong) on July 11.
Through these briefings, the district will share the integrated operation plan and proposed pilot routes with residents to address their questions. In addition, a variety of opinions will be collected and reflected in the integrated operation, with ongoing improvements made as needed.
Kim Gilseong, Mayor of Junggu, stated, "The integrated operation of shuttle buses for public facilities will make daily life much more convenient for residents. We will make thorough preparations so that people can truly experience 'My Side Junggu' in their everyday lives."
