Kim Jangho, mayor of Gumi, received great response from a special lecture at the Senior College on the 1st.
This was an unusual move for the top administrative official to visit the field, share policies, and answer questions, thereby building trust and receiving an enthusiastic response from the elderly community.
On July 1, Gumi City announced that Mayor Kim gave a special lecture at the main auditorium of the Gumi Senior Welfare Center, attended by about 160 students from the Gumi Senior College, which is operated by the Gumi branch of the Korean Senior Citizens Association.
This lecture was organized to promote learning and communication among seniors, providing comprehensive explanations about city administration and sharing practical policy information, which filled the educational venue with high energy.
During the lecture, Mayor Kim explained various city policies, including welfare strategies to address an aging society, expansion of leisure activities for seniors, and strengthening of health management systems. He also engaged in a direct Q&A session with attendees.
Reactions such as "I feel more trust when the mayor explains directly" and "I am confident that policies for seniors are becoming more field-oriented" further heightened the atmosphere of the lecture.
Mayor Kim emphasized, "The Senior College is not just an educational institution but a community that shares the joy of learning and vitality in life," and added, "We will continue to provide policy support so that seniors can enjoy a dignified and vibrant later life."
Meanwhile, the Gumi Senior College has been operating once a week for a total of 25 weeks since its entrance ceremony on April 1, and will continue until November. Through a curriculum that includes special lectures by distinguished guests, humanities classes, and cultural excursions, it serves as a hub for lifelong learning in the local community, reflecting the diverse needs of seniors.
Gumi City plans to continue promoting senior policies that expand social participation among the elderly and strengthen intergenerational connections, accelerating efforts to realize a "city where seniors are happy."
